The objective is to illustrate all known perfin dies used on Great British Postage Stamps coming from Coils, also referred to as ‘Rolls’. This includes the ‘unofficial’ hand-made rolls of stamps (from c1910), as well as the official rolls produced by the Post Office from August 1918. The make-up and identification of the ‘official’ rolls also appears at the back of the catalogue.
A basic introduction to ‘Coil Stamps’ has been presented that is relevant to Perfins rather than say, Vending Machines. This is followed by the details for each Perfin Die as per ‘The New Illustrated Catalogue of Great British perfins’, but organised under the various categories numbered 2 to 9 below. An overall index is included at the back to help locate any particular Perfin.

Details of the 150 different ‘Monogram’ dies, all of
which can be found in the various sections of the Gault-3 Catalogue.
They have been grouped here for convenience.
By definition, a monogram is a pattern formed by two or more
interwoven initials. With regard to Perfins, this ‘interweaving of
initials’ has been interpreted as the sharing of one or more holes
between letters. Monogram status is designated by the addition of a
lower case ‘m’ suffix to the Catalogue Number.
